Turkey Trot 2011

October 11, 2011 in Running

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We were thankful to enjoy a great weekend filled with family, delicious food and a scenic run at the 13th Annual Granville Island Turkey Trot. Despite the rainy weather and me being slightly under the weather, it felt great to get some fresh air and enjoy the vibrant buzz that is Granville Island. This particular event is a family friendly 10km run, walk, or stroll, which supports The Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Jerrick and I also managed to score free pairs of New Balance technical socks for being among the first 1000 runners to register for the event.

The 10km certified course started at Granville Island and looped over Burrard Bridge to the north side of the Sea Wall, before turning at Science World to head back along the south side of the Sea Wall to Performance Works on Granville Island. The route was relatively flat and breathtakingly scenic. As this race is limited to 2000 participants, it was a pleasure to not have to deal with an overcrowded or congested route. There was plenty of room for parents with their tots and strollers to whiz by us during the run. Kudos to those parents.

Neither of us ran a personal best, but we had a fun experience and were thankful to have family watch the girls while we got to run the beautiful seawall and burn off what we devoured from the night before…….
